We're so back (+ get my free "Conversion Optimized Design" swipe file)
Look, let’s not pretend like it hasn’t been almost 2 years since I last sent an email.
I can’t add an “unsubscribe” button on Substack but if you don’t remember subscribing, there is a button to unsubscribe at the bottom of this email. No hard feelings!
If you are happy to stick around, great! After a bit of a vacation from writing I’m feeling the urge to pick up the pen again.
First things first, let’s be real about something.
The name of this newsletter is The CRO Weekly.
If I’m being honest — the version of me who came up with that name had a lot more time on his hands than I do now. Because of that a better name for the newsletter today is probably “The CRO Sometimesly.”
But you know how it is. I don’t want to change the name and confuse people. And sometimesly isn’t even a real word.
So no, you won’t get this in your inbox on some perfect schedule. Instead I’m just going to try and make every email I do share super valuable.
And no, it won’t be 2 years until I send another email 😅
Second — my “Conversion Optimized Design” swipe file.
Every step of the funnel from ad → landing pages → website → popups → emails has an impact on your conversion rate.
Sometimes you know which part of your store is lacking (i.e your cart) but just can’t think of how to improve it.
That’s why I’ve spent time over the years curating beautiful, high converting designs.
Instead of having to be some genius designer, I just go to the swipe file and find an example of a great cart design. I take the pieces that are interesting (i.e the cart’s progress bar) and incorporate it into my own designs.
Here’s a great example of me doing exactly this the other day.
Brez had an issue with pre-orders hurting their conversion rate. So I took a design I originally found on Lomi, made it relevant to Brez, and shared it with the Brez team.
A couple days later and their conversion rate is already up!
It’s like Picasso said — “good artists copy; great artists steal”
I’ve kept this swipe file to myself forever but I figured as a gift for being a subscriber (and sticking around!) I’d share it with you.
Keep in mind, this is a major work in progress. I said I curated my swipe file but I never said it was organized!
So only ~1% of the designs are currently in there. It’s honestly a pain in the ass to import designs into Figma so give me some time to get it all sorted.
I’ll also be adding new content to the file each week once its all set up.
Alright enough talk, to get access to the swipe file simply reply to this email so I can send you an invite to the file when its ready. Even a blank reply is fine. (oh and I’m only adding subscribers so if you’re not subbed you can do so here!)
Yes of course I could just add everyone thats currently a subscriber but come on.. I haven’t sent an email in two years! So if I can save myself a couple minutes and them the confusion by not adding them then I’m going to! Thanks for understanding.
While you’re hitting that reply button, you could do me a huge favor and let me know what’s going on with your store. Is there something you’re struggling with? Conversion rate down lately and you don’t know why?
If you let me know, I’ll respond with some ideas and maybe can point you in the right direction of a solution.
